The City of Austin and the Texas Department of Transportation are about to begin road improvement projects which will impact area residents and commuters for the next couple of years. The City is about to begin a project to raise the low water crossing on Lakewood Drive in Bull Creek Park, which will require closing Lakewood Drive in the vicinity of the low water crossing for about 6 months.
Concurrent with that project, the Texas Department of Transportation is about to begin its project to build a new bridge over Bull Creek on RM 2222 which will be 18 feet higher than the existing bridge and will necessitate the closure of Lakewood Drive for part of the project. For about 18 months beginning about May of 2010, eastbound RM 2222 will be reduced to one lane.
The City of Austin and the Texas Department of Transportation are coordinating their projects so that Lakewood Drive will remain open at one end or the other throughout the duration of the projects.
Following is the current estimated schedule for the two projects, which you also can download as a PDF document. This information is correct as of 09/11/2009 and has been vetted by the two project managers for general distribution to the public. This information will be updated if the estimates change.
